Using bookmarks on mobile is pretty annoying. Your options are: 1) using uncustomizable shortcuts; 2) using the (...) menu to open bookmarks and 3) pin "latest bookmarks" to homepage and click "show all". Option 1 is pretty much out of the question if you use a lot of bookmarks and/or need folders; Options 2 and 3 have you clicking a lot to get to the bookmarks toolbar, which is extremely annoying.

Also, adding something to bookmarks on mobile, doesn't bring up the menu to choose where it ends up, and doesn't have a way to set up a default location, which forces me to then go into the bookmarks menu and manually move them. Having a default location option and the desktop-style bookmarking menu would be much appreciated.

I suggest an option for the current bookmarks widget or a new widget altogether for the homepage, that would just allow you to pin a bookmark folder (Bookmarks\Desktop\Bookmarks Toolbar in my case). Widgets usually have limited space, so I suggest having an arrow/show all button that will expand to show the whole folder (and you should have the option to have it expanded by default). Also, preferably in a list format rather than tiles with thumbnails.

Alternatively add a bookmarks menu to the tab button menu, but this way the whole homepage is just wasted space for me, so I would prefer the former option.

Firefox Home content based on a bookmark folder

It would be good for "Firefox Home Content" if one could select a bookmark and its items would appear on the "Firefox Home Content" in small squares.

The visit part of the "Shortcuts -> Sites you save or visit" is disturbing!

Thanks: Bela

+1000 if I could. I want to open the browser on my phone, and choose from bookmarks I have created for a few different sites. I don't find the "customize homepage" feature very customizable.

Well, I wanted to finally make the switch from Chrome to Firefox on mobile, but the inability to do something as simple as adding Bookmarks to the Homepage is a deal-breaker. This indicates to me that Mozilla's mobile development team fundamentally fails to understand how people use basic browser features, along with the overall purpose and opportunity of a browser home screen.

Why would anyone want only "Recent bookmarks" on their homepage? In what scenario would someone want a bookmark to automatically disappear (which presumably happens when it's no longer deemed "recent") from a place where it's most easily accessible, rather than make the choice to remove it when it's no longer needed? On top of all this, even while using Recent bookmarks there's no way to organize them by importance. Google and Wikipedia already show a pinned icon, so it's clear this functionality exists and is being withheld.

Making moves

@Jon& @Justine - Similar ideas have been proposed and discussed in multiple threads (see below). This is a major missing feature in Firefox mobile versions, IMHO.

I so much want to switch to using Firefox on my Android but the lack of this feature is the only reason why I cannot switch. Remember that, on mobiles, the screen real estate is less and it's better UX for user to click on saved bookmarks to dive into browsing than manually typing URLs or only visiting recently visited/recently bookmarked site or going into multiple menus (i.e. multiple clicks) to visit saved bookmarks.

Is there a roadmap on when home page improvements would be implemented? How else can I push/vote for this change to happen?

I have basically 3 websites that I use on a daily basis. I just want them to be on my homepage. Simple.

Mobile Chrome can do this easily, but Firefox can't even do this simple thing. In the end, market share does not lie.

+1. I thought I was missing something considering when I dragged a folder (created in Opera which has a very useful Speed Dial in the home page with FOLDERS) and Firefox only opened all the tabs in the folder instead of pinning it.

"Bluntinly" speaking, using a phone is a pain in the sarse so, the less I have to press or touch to get what I need is the better; and bookmarks are a must as we use them everyday, many times a day.

Most of my work is on a desktop and I add my bookmarks to, you guessed it, the bookmarks bar; so I want to have it on my phone browser desktop so I don't have to navigate extra three touches to get to them. It's already a pain to go through folders, so make it simpler.

And thanks for searching in the bookmarks first when I start "touching" the phone.
