The built-in Google Calendar sync does not support tasks, and the plugin that's available as an add-on is broken and spams you with all the old events it hasn't seen when you start Thunderbird. IIRC that was broken for years, definitely months, although my distro (Arch) held back Thunderbird updates for some time.

If these are never going to be fixed (and even if they are), it would be really nice to be able to hide the tasks part of the today pane, which currently just takes up space with an error message "Please select a calendar that supports tasks".

I tried asking on the relevant subreddit, and received no solutions to this issue (just a suggestion to try the add-on, which I already removed to stop getting blasted by pop-ups every time I opened Thunderbird).

Thanks.

found this when searching for a way to "not show tasks in Today Pane"

while waiting for my "support" post to be approved, I think I have found very simple solution...

apart from all the Google calendars I use, by default there is also "Home" calendar (native to Thunderbird)

Selecting "Home" even without enabling it makes tasks disappear from "Today pane"

Try it please and let me know if it works for you?
