Allow a new Compose Message window to show up in a Thunderbird tab or a free floating window.

I have a suggestion for Thunderbird. It would be nice to have Thunderbird allow a new Compose Message window to show up in a Thunderbird tab instead of a free floating window as it does now. I would make this a user configurable item in perhaps Preferences, where the user can select whether he/she wants to have each new Compose Message window be a free floating window or a Thunderbird tab. Thanks for considering this.

I like the idea that it is at least being seriously considered now.  Instead of the disastrous 115 changes, the focus should have been on the tab feature in the first place.  It always seems as if it is two steps forward and one step back.

This feature has yet to be implemented. I hope to see this in the near future as Thunderbird already has tabs and in my opinion, should be able to be used in a single window at all times if desired.

It is such an obvious feature that I don't understand why Thunderbird doesn't have it. Everything else works with tabs, why not this?

I second the idea of composing new messages in Thunderbird in a new tab instead of a new window.

I don't like multiple windows in general, it clutters the desktop space, and the fact that everything works with tabs in Thunderbird, or is at least able to do so, makes it odd that the compose message space is excluded from using tabs.

This has actually been an open discussion dating back to 2008 (as far back as I can find - Reported: 2008-08-05 16:14 PDT by Susurrus).  16 years later and it's still not implemented.  This is very odd UI behavior considering reading emails opens in tabs, yet composing them does not.

This functionality is a long-time coming.  The earliest thread I can find on this dates back to 2008 (Reported: 2008-08-05 16:14 PDT by Susurrus).  Given the standard functionality for opening an email for reading is to view in a tab, it's odd that the UI doesn't allow for drafting outgoing emails in a tab.  I suppose after waiting the past 16 years we can wait a few more months (hahaha).
