Dear Mozilla Team,
This may sound like a crazy idea, but I wanted to share a feature suggestion that I believe would significantly improve the user experience for people who use multiple password manager extensions.
It would be great if Firefox provided a way to prioritize extensions that serve the same purpose, such as password managers (Bitwarden, Apple Passwords/iCloud Passwords, SaaSPass, 1Password, etc.). For example, Firefox could display a small icon or selector within login fields that clearly indicates which password manager will be used, allowing users to choose their preferred provider without interference from competing extensions.
Here is why:
I use Firefox on macOS as my primary browser for everything. Both Firefox and macOS are fully up to date. I also use multiple password manager extensions, including Bitwarden and Apple's iCloud Passwords.
Unfortunately, any webpage that requires a username, password, or one-time passcode (OTP) has become a daily battle. Multiple password managers compete for the same login fields, and getting the correct one to appear often feels like a frustrating game of trial and error.
Many times, I have to click on an area of the webpage that is outside the username or password fields just to make one password manager's popup disappear. Then, if I select Bitwarden for the username field, the iCloud Passwords prompt may appear over the password field or even block the sign-in button entirely on some websites. This creates a confusing and disruptive login experience.
The issue is especially noticeable when moving between different websites throughout the day, as there is no clear or consistent way to specify which password manager should take precedence. Instead, users are left navigating overlapping prompts and competing autofill suggestions.
I have attached several screenshots to this request that demonstrate the problem. They show how the password manager popups overlap, hide important page elements, and interfere with the sign-in process.
I realize this may not be a simple feature to implement, but I believe a built-in extension prioritization mechanism or a clear password manager selection interface would greatly improve usability for users who rely on multiple credential providers.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I appreciate the work the Firefox team does and hope this suggestion can be considered for a future release.
Sincerely,
J. Mor
