Add option to hide X from tabs on sidebar

After using the new tab sidebar for a while I have found that the X (close tab) button is annoyingly easy to accidentally click when attempting to switch tabs, especially when a volume button is covering part of the tab icon.

Could there be an option to hide the close button. I can still close tabs by middle-clicking on the icons or using a keyboard shortcut.

In 30-40% cases instead of clicking a tab I close it, because (x) suddenly appear.

Either option is needed or some logic, .e.g when width is minimized do not show close button (x).

Has an option been implemented? Realistically, how difficult is it to implement it for Firefox developers - 10 minutes, or more?

This is still an issue, I tried a CSS fix but it didn't work. An option to remove the X would be great.
The user can still close with middle mouse button or by accessing the context menu.

I can't count the number of times I accidentally muted my teams window and assumed it's the headphones/teams problem instead of firefox. The location of close and mute buttons are very annoying.

One idea to solve them is having a bit wider sidebar with extra space for contextual actions on the right, so that buttons are pill shaped. Alernatively the tab icons could be bigger.

Another idea is to have swipe actions — swipe left to close, swipe right to mute.

Finally, I am lacking this the most from chrome, but a single "media control" button in the top bar, which allows me to mute and manage media playing on any of the hundreds tab I sometimes have.
