Thunderbird is amost the best email client now. It is very useful to keep Thunderbird running on background. Please consider to add an option to enable Thunderbird minimize to system tray when clicking close button.

I know there are some addons, however, as the comming Thunderbird 136, they fail to work. I hope this could be a native feature of Thunderbird.

This is the only reason I still run 128.8. Please add this to 136+

... and why is for example add-on "minimize on close" deactivated without any warning in version 136 ?

@JohnMLAccording to the notes of "minimize on close", the addon uses a low-level user interface so that the author need to adopt the addon for each major version of Thunderbird. The author plan to only support the esr version of Thunderbird, at least for now.

Bad news ๐Ÿ˜ž

I am on Linux and try "kdocker", but that is not as usefull as "minimize on close".

So have to get used to klick only ( !! ) the minimize button .

Perhaps downgrade thunderbird and put it on "hold" : I have to think about that ... because i don't want all these new but for me useless functions in thunderbird !!!

... and i don't need these badges for first post ... just got them twice  ๐Ÿ˜ž

Downgraded thunderbird 136 to 128.8 and had to configure lots of details again. In the past i could just copy hidden folder .thunderbird from a backup but thunderbird forces me now  to configure a new account and afterwards i could import from /home/.thunderbird-backup/ ... default ...

Perhaps there is a command line parameter that i don't know ?

Perhaps that will not change for one year ?

Here is a download link for linux thunderbird :

Don't forget to uninstall first the package of  a given thunderbird

This doesn't seem at all difficult to implement and it provides users with a choice. Please implement!
