Status: New idea

Adding Duck.ai or DuckDuckGo Chats to the Chatbot Sidebar would allow users to use privacy respecting chatbots and quick model switches.

It also does not require a login, so saving cookies for the sidebar would not matter.

@joaoc completely agree. For example I want DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM. In the future others might want other providers. So I think it's smarter to turn it into a framework where individuals can simply add other AI provider as extensions.

But for now I think duck.ai is a great idea and should be added before any revamping to the system.

Add Duck.ai as a selectable assistant/provider in Firefox’s chatbot feature

Message: Hello — I’d like to request that Firefox add Duck.ai (DuckDuckGo’s AI assistant) as an option for the new built-in chatbot/assistant feature.

Why: Duck.ai is a privacy-focused assistant from DuckDuckGo that many users would prefer because of its privacy stance and anonymous-by-design approach. Adding it would give users a non‑BigTech, privacy-respecting alternative.

Integration details for developers:

  • Duck.ai info page: https://duckduckgo.com/duck.ai
  • Expected endpoints: OAuth or token exchange endpoint, chat API endpoint (websocket/HTTP), and an optional web UI redirect for account/consent.
  • Suggested scopes: chat.read, chat.write, profile (if applicable).
  • CORS: Ensure chat API supports CORS for browser clients.
  • Privacy: Duck.ai (DuckDuckGo) emphasizes anonymous-by-design operation and prioritizes user privacy.

Contact: If Mozilla needs technical integration details or a test manifest, please contact DuckDuckGo support via https://help.duckduckgo.com/ (use their contact form) or email support@duckduckgo.com.

Thanks for considering adding Duck.ai — it would expand user choice and privacy-respecting options for Firefox users.
