I think it would be helpful if it was possible to add custom fields (or a textarea for notes) to stored passwords to securely store additional information (like security questions, customer support pins, etc.)

Additionally it would be nice to be able to store and sync other credentials and information in Firefox, that don't link to websites, like (recovery-)keys for BitLocker/TrueCrypt/LUKS-LVM partitions, WiFi Passwords and Credit Cards. Of cause you won't have auto-fill, etc., but it wouldn't cause any harm to have more like a "Firefox secure wallet"...

The comment field would allow further definition of the entry other than the URL

I like this idea.  When saving a username/password, sometimes the url doesn't clearly show the website you expect.  This would provide a way to do that.

This feature would be really helpful!

And it should be searchable!

I joined the community today, to submit exactly this suggestion. Not as ambitious as the original poster, but a text box, at a minimum, should be added. I have quite a few passwords, many with URLs that give no clue who they are affiliated with, and it's hard to keep track of them all. A simple note for each password (with terms findable in a search) would be a gamechanger.

Otherwise, I enjoy Firefox . Keep up the good work

Another benefit of this idea is that it allows one to manually add fields that Firefox doesn't automatically identify, eg. forms that have more fields than just username-password. For example, my university's portal site has a "Date of birth code" masked field in addtion to the password; which I type every time because the password manager doesn't track it.

Hey all, thanks for the excellent idea and your comments! Indeed the world is more than just a username+password and we should be able to support that. While I can't give any ETA, I can tell this topic is floating around and we are looking into what and how can be done.

P.S. There is also Bug 1687155 with similar request.

There are tremendous examples of companies that either have multiple url's for the same service, or a dedicated deviating url for logging in to the service that is not obvious.
I find myself sometimes having to scroll to all the entries one by one, because guessing the user name or a part of the url a few times does not bring back a shortlist with the correct.
It's an annoyance because the solution is so simple, free form field. 😉

FYI I have stored my google back up codes in the password slot and gave a fake url of 'google backup codes' to achieve this.

I would love if I could have put it in a textarea instead of the password input to make it easier to see the full text
