Idea

Please add an option to lock the tabs within a Firefox Tab Group, preventing them from being accidentally dragged out of the group or moved to another group.

Problem

When working with multiple Tab Groups, it is easy to accidentally drag a tab out of its group while switching between tabs with the mouse. This is particularly frustrating for users who regularly keep many tabs open for work, email, research, or file management.

For example, a user may have a group containing 8–10 tabs that belong together. An accidental drag can move one of those tabs outside the group, requiring the user to find it and manually move it back.

Proposed solution

Add a “Lock group” option to the Tab Group context menu.

When a group is locked:

  • Tabs cannot be accidentally dragged outside the group.
  • Tabs cannot be moved to another group by drag-and-drop.
  • Tabs can still be opened, closed, reloaded, and used normally.
  • The group can be unlocked at any time through the same context menu.
  • Firefox could optionally display a small lock icon to indicate that the group is protected.

An alternative implementation would be a “Lock tabs in this group” option that protects only the current tabs while still allowing new tabs to be added.

Why this would be useful

This would make Tab Groups safer and easier to use for people who maintain large collections of related tabs. It would reduce accidental tab movement and make Firefox's Tab Groups more reliable for everyday workflows.

A simple lock/unlock mechanism would provide better control without changing the existing Tab Group workflow for users who do not need this feature.
