I'd like to see a new feature in Firefox.

Users should be able to set the maximum amount of memory Firefox is allowed to use.

- - -
➡️ | This option should be available in Firefox Settings
➡️ | Memory Limit Options

Memory limit options

Option 1: Fixed memory limit

  • 512 MB
  • 1 GB
  • 2 GB
  • Custom value

Option 2: Percentage of installed RAM

  • 10%
  • 20%
  • 30%
  • Custom value

Important

Firefox should enforce this limit itself and manage its memory usage accordingly.

- - -
➡️ | When the limit is reached, Firefox should take appropriate measures to stay within the configured memory budget, for example:

  • Unload inactive tabs
  • Reduce or clear internal caches
  • Release unused memory
  • Reduce background activity

The goal is to keep Firefox within the user-defined memory limit instead of continuously increasing RAM usage.

- - -
➡️| This feature would be especially useful for:

  • Computers with limited RAM
  • Older hardware
  • Virtual machines
  • Embedded systems
  • Users running multiple applications simultaneously

Many users have been requesting this feature for a long time.
Thank you for considering this feature.
