For such an annoying feature as "swipe navigation" there should at least be a setting option without having to go through "about:config" first.

browser.gesture.swipe.left
browser.gesture.swipe.right

Furthermore, I find it strange that after some updates my settings are simply overwritten and this feature is activated yet again.

Unbelievable that this idea only has 2 votes right now. See how many people are looking for a way to disable this function: superuser.com/a/642368/998803

@harpia thanks for sharing that link! Always helpful to see these things discussed in other spaces too.

This is a generally disruptive feature by default, especially if you're on a page where you've been inputting things in a form of any type. One accidental side swipe and you can lose all your work.

It's happened to me when I've made the mistake of forgetting that it's always safer to do any prep work outside the browser (a lesson itself hard-learned by unwanted, difficult to disable features like this & sites that erase everything you've done on navigation or their own poor implementations).

Hello.

Want to let you know about a scenario where this swipe feature is particularly dangerous.

You are browsing a site that shows an horizontal scroll bar.

If you swipe while the cursor is in the frame with the scroll bar, the content scrolls.

But if you don't have the cursor in the frame, the swipe causes the browser to go back which may become unnoticed.

I use a web app which has different views for information, when I switch to one view, there are certain filters applied. If I accidentally swipe while cursor is not in the frame, I unintendedly switch to the previous view and see content unexpected.

The following is a good fix, but it should be in the GUI.
