Firefox New Tab recommendations currently appear to rely on IP-based geolocation.
This breaks for users behind corporate VPNs, travel VPNs, or remote-work networks where the exit IP is in a different country than the user’s physical location.

Request: add a setting that lets the user manually choose the country/region used for New Tab recommendations, separate from the detected public IP.

Example: I am physically in Sweden, but my company VPN exits in the UK, so Firefox shows UK-oriented suggestions. I want recommendations based on Sweden without disabling the VPN.

A simple solution would be:

  • Default: automatic detection
  • Optional override: manually select country/region
  • Optional note: keep this separate from browser language and separate from the weather location setting

This would help VPN users, travelers, expats, and remote workers.
