Ability to rename tabs

It would be helpful to have the option to be able to rename tabs. This could help to easily differentiate between tabs that have the same name by default, such as some email clients or messaging applications.

Rename tabs

Renaming a tab would be very useful when you have a website opened multiple times, and each tab is at a different section of that website, because you could conveniently keep track of where each tab is.

e.g. You have some sort of textbook opened, and one tab points to the contents, one tab points to the main content you're focusing on, and another points at a relevant appendix. Renaming tabs would be a great help in this case.

And there are probably many more use cases for this feature that I can't think of.

Why isn't this a thing yet? I know people that switched browsers just because of this feature missing in Firefox...

Great idea. The more tabs are utilized, the more important it becomes to be able to tell, at a glance, which tab is which. When, for example, you open multiple amazon tabs, they all are just named 'Amazon.com' and being able to rename them after the product they show or the list or feature they show (for example, device management, KU content, and different lists...) makes navigation much less hit and miss and more planned, particularly if you manage to reorder them by accident!

It also makes having multiple tabs with the same list, but different sort orders, viable and easily usable.

Combine this with grouping tabs and you start having real power.

Allow to rename/customize the open tabs in Firefox

It would be a lot usefull to be able to rename the open tabs in the browser.

It's not difficult to find ourselves with multiple tabs (whether in general sites or webapps) with the same caption - developers might now what I am talking about.

Renaming the tab could make a difference between making a mistake in a QA environment or a Production one. Or, messing up one account, having it confused with another one in the next tab.

I know this is a repition; in fact when I was posting I found another one just like it:

I still post my own to reinforce it, because that one is already there for 4 years, and I don't think it's visible anymore unless you search for it. And it must be so simple to implement it hurts 🙂

In addition, one could be able to change the tab's icon, in vertical tab mode for easier identifying, when the captions are hidden.
