Issue: Right now users cannot rearrange Containers as shown when right-clicking on the "+" button to open a new tab.

Proposed solution: the Manage Containers menu should show handles aside each container name in the list, so the user can drag rows to rearrange Containers and change their order.

What containers do you mean? Do you mean the shortcuts under Firefox new tab search bar? I see no "containers" option on right-click options menu of + button. If you mean changing tabs order you can simply drag them as you like, otherwise I didn't got you.

+ I need this too. I have to many containers, and since priorities are changing, I'd love to have the option to re-arrange the containers

Any serious use of the containers' functionality really needs this.

Here is a possible solution:

  1. Close Firefox
  2. Navigate to the following directory:
    Firefox:
    ~\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>.default
    Waterfox:
    ~\AppData\Roaming\Waterfox\Profiles\<profile>.default
  3. Open containers.json.
  4. Rearrange the objects so that they are in the order you would like them to appear in Firefox. The objects look like this:
    {"userContextId": 1, ..., "name": "Container 1"}

The suggestion in the comment above works for reordering, but with bad side-effects: upon restarting firefox , the restored tabs are all opened in wrong containers AND sites are assigned to those those containers -- effectively, your curated assignment of sites to containers is wrecked. I'm glad I tried this in a test profile and not in a profile with lots of containers & open tabs!

Beware: the suggestion from the comment above , i.e to reorder entries in containers.json  does reorder, but with real bad side effect of wrecking your curated (site,container) assignments.

Upon restarting FF, I noticed that all sites assigned to one container were assigned to a totally different container.   (most containers' sites were reassigned to some other container).

I'm glad I did this with a test FF profile , not with my main profile with lots of containers & open tabs.
