Subject: Please Offer Fakespot as a Subscription—Don’t Shut It Down Dear Mozilla Team, I was so disappointed to hear that you’re shutting down Fakespot. It’s one of the most valuable tools I’ve ever used for online shopping—simple, smart, and incredibly effective in cutting through fake reviews. If the issue is cost or sustainability, I urge you to consider offering it as a subscription service. I would gladly pay for continued access to something that helps me shop with confidence and a...

I just learned of Fakespot and then disappointed to learn your shutting it down. I read that 10%-60% of items on Amazon are fake, it’s shocking! As consumers, how are we to protect ourselves? Enter Fakespot, a method to assess the integrity of an item. I think many people would gladly pay for a subscription to Fakespot. Please consider keeping this valuable service. From what I’ve read, many people rely on Fakespot for how their hard-earned dollars are spent. As I said, I just learned of the s...

I have relied on FakeSpot for years to help me distinguish good Amazon products from those laden with fake reviews. Before this tool I almost gave up using Amazon because buying was such a hit-or-miss experience. I would definitely pay a yearly fee to keep using this great tool; it has saved me a lot of money and aggravation over the years!

Fakespot has been invaluable to me and seems like a terrible business decision for Mozilla to take it away, and honestly, reeks of Jeff Bezos paying them off or something. This is a feature I would gladly pay for! How about it Mozilla? Make Fakespot a subscription and it will fund itself.

Make Fakespot open source

It may sound abstract, but if it's going to die out so soon, why not make it open source? And/or make it local. It wasn't available in my language, and it clearly won't be anytime soon. So, the problem of generated reviews isn't urgent yet. However, I believe that AI slop will eventually reach marketplaces in my country. This could incentivize the collection of dishonest reviews, similar to SponsorBlock (here, I mean crowdsourcing what needs to be blocked). In my humble opinion, many good Mo...

I want to provide some feedback on the Fakespot review checker because I have been using it when researching products. After hours of searching I found that one of my "finalists" was reusing their Amazon listing page for previous generations of products. When you look into user reviews and photos, the item being described is an older generation of the current product. This inflates the user ratings on Amazon. I don't know how accurate the Fakespot review checker is in this situation but I w...

As a longtime Firefox user, I’m incredibly frustrated that Mozilla removed the built-in review checker (Fakespot) without offering a proper replacement. It was one of the few tools helping users cut through fake product reviews on Amazon and other sites. Privacy-respecting users now have no viable alternative. This decision feels like a betrayal of what Firefox once stood for — simplicity, user advocacy, and trust. If Mozilla continues down this path, I will sadly have to leave Firefox a...

The new built-in Fakespot functionality is now presenting in-my-face recommendations about reviews on shopping sites like Amazon. Fakespot's analysis is frequently objectively and provably wrong. I have already encountered several cases where Fakespot reports terrible review quality and very low product ratings where the actual reviews are clearly reasonable and thoughtful. No, I'm not a seller. Never sold a thing on Amazon in my life. No, I'm not a shill. I'm a long-term Firefox user and A...

We have been selling on Amazon for over 20 years and have older reviews that existed before Amazon would verify people were customers.  Fakespot seems to consider these all negative/fake.  Easy fix would be at a minimum to not count orders before a certain date (that Amazon verified purchases).  And when Amazon didn't require it (being verified) but did have some verified, my guess is our demographic was less likely to login.  We never paid for reviews other than grapeview r...

Recently, Mozilla purchased a review-scanning company FakeSpot and has started integrating it into the browser. Mozilla should stop and reverse course immediately. FakeSpot collects an excessive amount of private data, and since purchasing them, Mozilla has not corrected these privacy problems. Nobody asked for this. FakeSpot has not been requested by the community. Mozilla's finite time, effort, and money could be better spent fixing bugs, addressing requested changes, etc. People use F...
