Hi Das, if you are running Firefox on Windows, you can control whether Firefox updates automatically or notifies you when an update is available so you can control when the file is downloaded and staged to install at the next startup. I think it works on Mac, too. On Linux, though, your package manager often overrides this setting. Here's how:

Open the Settings/Preferences page using either:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences (unless this changed to "Settings")
  • Any OS: type or paste '''about:preferences''' into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the very tiny search box at the top of the page, type update and Firefox should filter to the relevant section of the page. There you can change to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them".
