Why are users allowed to post unchecked web links in Connect threads?

On the Mozilla Support site, a web link would need moderator approval before the post appears (unless if the user is linking to a whitelisted site).

So I was wondering why, on Connect, can users post site links with seemingly no pre-checks?

Any user who has spent enough time here will have noticed the advertising spam links. Some of these links may even point to malware.

Did @Jon ever reply to this on any other post about it, or privately? There are many users of CONNECT who are unhappy about this issue, that only serves to reduce its usability, and damages the reputation of both the forum AND Mozilla ORG.

td47, I personally have not received any private messages or thread responses in relation to this subject. Or at least none that I am aware of.

Yes I agree that the issue affects site usability to some degree.

For example, I avoid opening old threads that resurface because it seems that 9 times out of 10 it has been resurrected by a spam bot. But of course that means that I might miss genuine posts.

But hopefully though, this will all change once Connect moves to the SUMO board, where only trusted / approved links are posted.
