Recently, I noticed that Firefox has included a built-in VPN in its browser. This VPN currently works well in China and can unblock international websites.
I am writing to plead with the developers of Firefox to disable this function for users in China. Currently, the Chinese government blocks a great deal of websites outside of the country and is highly proactive in dismantling anti-censorship proxies. If this free VPN goes viral here, the government will likely block all Firefox websites, which would be a devastating scenario for us.
Tools already exist in China to unblock international websites; they use specialized encryption to bypass the Great Firewall. Including a VPN in Firefox will not provide further help to Chinese citizens. Instead, it will only alert the government and lead to all Firefox products—and even the name itself—being banned and censored.
I would like to express my gratitude in advance for your efforts to keep Firefox alive in China.
