Just a short mumble. I thought I could us the "update" shown in the about for v92, which I was running, to update to v102, but something happened, just not the update.

"Something happened" -- the suspense is killing me, what happened?
If the built-in updater can't complete the job, you can update using the full installer. This is mentioned in the "Having Problems?" note in the support article (with a link): https://support.mozilla.org/kb/update-firefox-latest-release

What happened? It took time, to do nothing, which surprised me. I then did run the update from the link. This whole thing was a statement of, as I said, surprise because the link at About didn't work. Been with T-bird since the beginning, and have had success with most everything I've done regarding the app.
