Too little, too late

Making moves

I saw the newsposts about the AI killswitch. It's a nice idea, but it's too little too late -- Mozilla's out-of-touch leadership has already burned all community goodwill by listening exclusively to the vocal minority of shrill techbro weirdos whose brains are now so rotted that they can't do things they've done all their lives without relying on genAI.

How are we to even trust that the killswitch does what you say? The AI "features" were snuck into Firefox and hidden behind about:config, a menu most users don't even know about and that actively discourages users from even opening, a menu that most of us only know about because of circulating guides on how to turn off the unwanted AI "features."

Wider community feedback has been steadfastly ignored by Mozilla's leadership for the better part of a decade as they tried to jump on whatever trend flew past. I remember crypto, I remember the embarrassing nonsense that was NFTs, and I definitely remember the unmitigated disaster that was the metaverse, and the shrill weirdos who Mozilla's leadership exclusively listened to (and seem to be made up of) were wrong about these trends every single time, and they're wrong about genAI, too.

The majority of people who switched to Firefox within the past few years did so because of its adblocking functionality and the lack of AI nonsense being forced into it. Now, one of those things already happened and is only going to get worse as the userbase continues to be ignored, while the adblocking is on its way to the chopping block. The two primary reasons to use Firefox are on their way out. Why would we bother when it's just like all the other corpo slop out there? It offers nothing.

Making the AI "features" opt-in isn't enough. It never should have been added in the first place. Mozilla's leadership needs a total purge. Get the gullible trend-chasing marks out and get people who actually care about user experience in.
