Thunderbird won't delete

All of a sudden when I go to my deleted folder and click on empty trash--all the messages disappear, and then reappear.  Always in the past they disappeared and were gone--now they won't delete--any suggestions?

I have the same problem in input file or trash for 1 or several. Always after an update. What do I do?
