Did you mean:

Thunderbird update should not install Windows shortcuts

Making moves

Thunderbird silently and rudely installs shortcuts on the Windows desktop and in the start menu. I do not desire this clutter and have deliberately deleted them. Forcing users to repeatedly delete this is bad behavior. If you need to refresh the location of these point to, then check for their existence before updating the files, but do not arbitrarily pollute the user's UI every few weeks.

From where (what URL/website) did you get the install package?
And do you know whether it was a .exe file?  Or a .xpi?

It was an automated update, and it's been happening consistently for automated updates since I initially installed 128.3.0 ESR from thunderbird.net over a year ago.
