Search shortcuts no longer work

One thing I hate is when it was possible to do something and then it is forbidden to do it.
It used to be precisely possible to add custom search shortcuts, for example to search a certain site, knowing the url of its search. Now neither is it possible to add a new engine nor to modify existing ones, which also continue to work!
