I remember when Mozilla advertised with “take back the web”.
Nowadays, Firefox seems to only exist (and is paid well for it), to be an alibi for Google so it can claim it is “not” a monopoly, while at the same time, it is so systematically made worse and Google-like, that it is a statistical impossibility for it to not be intentional.
We don’t use Firefox because we like it. Nobody does. We use it because Chrome/Chromium is even worse. We’re the last holdouts, who don’t wanna give up. Everybody with less willpower or power already just gave up.
So let’s change that.
Let’s fix the core problems:
- Data lock-in goes directly against the open spirit of the open source community. That means Mozilla Sync, especially on mobile, has to die. NO data can be allowed to be in a format that can be trivially exchanged with external entities. It must be regular files, easily read out, or changed.
- Code lock-in goes directly against the same spirit too. That means add-ons, the thing that put Firefox on the map in the first place, must have the possibility to have full access to the browser facilities, and the only one who has the right to decide that for a user, is that user itself. Because:
- Nannying users, when they have no choice, like here, is a form of violent psychological abuse. That means the cultural roots from which such abominations as making Mozilla Sync closed (well, pseudo open, since even a professional software engineer and admin will take days to set it up and in almost all cases give up… which is clearly intentional), locking up Firefox on Android, and add-ons, have to be eradicated.
- and most importantly: Taking money from the direct main enemy (frankly of humanity as a whole, and as a fact, via fossil fuels and global warming, all life on this planet)… Google, an organization that fully supports the US fascist dictatorship (literally sitting next to child-rapist convicted felon Trump, smiling, clapping, and most importantly, exchanging money and contracts) is completely and utterly unacceptable. It goes squarely and completely against everything Mozilla and Firefox always claim they stand for. (They wouldn’t be openly lying to our faces, would they?)
I don’t care if it’s your main money source. That’s the problem! It’s like saying you can’t stop eating babies cause it’s your main food source. In fact, since there is a direct causal relationship from this to dead babies (e.g. “pizza parties”, or ending USAID), that’s not even a hyperbole at this point! - and finally: Expelling ALL and EVERYONE from the organization, who opposes this, as that is evidence of either them being supporters/agents of the enemies of humanity and all life, or mentally unfit to interact with the world without a court-approved legal guardian. Especially those now acting flustered, ruffled and huffed with it, to distract people from what they side with and present themselves as “victims”. (A classic modern tactic… because it works!)

Reality is that, which, if you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.
Reality is, that humans believe anyway. Whatever their owners tell them.
