Since version 156.0b1 (I'm trying Firefox Developer Edition for Linux) the history for text input in the address bar seems to "forget" everything upon switching tabs. Prior to this version it was possible to retrieve previous entries which I found very useful for browsing. It was very simple to navigate with the keyboard, e.g., with two keystrokes: open new tab (ctrl-t) -> undo (ctrl-z), you could edit the address. Previous cursor position and highlight selection were preserved which meant you could easily make a handful of small iterative changes (e.g. example.com/page-1[0-9]). Also going further back through the stack made it simple to locate a recent url.
I am unsure if this was an intentionally introduced change or not. I hadn't realised just how much I enjoyed this history buffer mechanism until now, and wasn't sure if others used it this way, but it seems they may do according to this 2010 article https://lifehacker.com/5610404 and a blog post https://www.techdreams.org/browsers/firefox/4358-20100814 praising the feature. I would love for this functionality to be restored and perhaps documented officially, or know about any equivalent way to have this input history stack.
