FireFox 109 is Opening .RCV files as links instead of handling them as binary download files

As of FireFox 109, Firefox is opening RCV files as links instead of defaulting to binary download files. This binary file is not a viewable file and MUST be download.

This problem can occur when the server isn't configured for the .rcv file extension and sends it with one of these headers

  • Content-Type: text/plain
  • Content-Type: text/html

As a workaround, you can right-click the link and use Save Link As... to bypass automatic handling.

Also, if my diagnosis is correct, you can create a custom Content-Type override using my add-on, Content-Type Fixer. More info: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ext/content-type-fixer.html (see the Roll Your Own section).

This problem is only occurring in FireFox. 109 Chrome and Edge browsers do not have this issue.
