I didn't even know such a feature existed. I have those enabled and never had one pinning itself.
From what i understand, you'd need to right click the tab and pin to make it happen.
My guess is that there is an extension doing the pinning for you.
You could try to disable (not uninstall) all extensions, and see how it goes.
Disabling this feature, will only mask the symptom.
