I just noticed today that the address bar in the iPad version no longer shows the full URL of the website just the top level domain, “linkedin.com” “google.com”, etc. To see the full URL you must click/tap on the address bar which then also brings up the homepage and hides whatever page you were on. This is frustrating and jarring to say the least. Especially on iPad which has so much screen real estate theres no reason to try to save space on URLs. On iPhone, the address bar gets much smaller with this feature, and there are additional buttons added, so theres no longer any room for a full URL. I understand the logic of highlighting the top level domain of the website, it can be useful for average users who barely pay attention to the URL, so they understand very simply what website they’re on. However, users should absolutely be able to disable it if they choose to. I could not find any mentions of this feature for URL simplification, URL shortening, simplified address bar. I figured it may be a beta test, so I disabled “Install and Run Studies” and the address bar went back to normal.
