My problem was solved. Here's what I did: completely closed Firefox, reopened Firefox, clicked the shortcut, and then opened a new tab. 邏‍‍‍

I have 21 custom images for shortcuts that work. However, for one shortcut I am having the same problem you describe; the image preview works, but then greyed out image shows after save.
