I personally prefer that the sidebar change the page layout because I've been leaving it open occasionally. If this functionality is implemented, I would prefer if it only if there an "expand on mouse-over" option,
Great idea, but it has to be optional. I personally would get pretty annoyed if the side panel opens every time i try to click on something near the side of the screen and accidentally overshoot it
