To resolve best of both worlds:Implement a "Pin" sidebar toggle. Where if pinned it changes the page layout but if it isn't pinned its just floating over the page.
I am split on this. Like i understand what the need is but a part of me wonders if this should be resolved at the browser level or should your system's audio setup be the solution.
