Here's a screenshot of the extension I mentioned earlier. Notice the buttons at the bottom, which are all completely customizable. This is just how I have it set up.
Another thought here. It doesn't fix everything in this messed up new menu, but the extension "essential homepage" has a proper back and forward button right at the bottom where it's supposed to be, plus a ton of other actions you can add if you wish...
I wonder if we could install a previous version via apk? I also had updates turned off, but stupidly turned them back on because nothing bad ever happened. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say...!!
