Warn about search keywords shorter than 3 characters

I wanted to find an email about my purchase of some vitamin supplements. I entered "d3 k2 PopularWebstore" in the global search box and was surprised to find that all results from PopularWebstore were returned, regardless of whether they matched "d3" or "k2". After some additional experimentation I ended up trying a search for "mk7 PopularWebstore" which worked as expected.

So, it seems that 3 characters is the minimum length of a word in the search box, but I don't see any indication in the UI that this is the case. Perhaps a simple warning on the top of the results page could be added? Or the terms could be crossed out and shown in read, with a hover tooltips explaining the issue?
