The fact that there is no way to translate automatically in iOS puts Firefox way behind Edge, Safari, and Chrome on the iOS platform. I was excited to switch to Firefox but this vital missing feature will keep me or anyone else who lives outside of the English speaking world from using Firefox as their mobile browser. Cutting the URL into google.translate.com is no substitute at all for the ability to translate from within the app.

I’m very sad that in 2025 I still have to use other mobile browsers for built in translator capacity 😞

Hey all!

I hope you’re doing well. I’m excited to share that iOS Translations will begin rolling out in the next few weeks! We will share the final announcement early next week, but I wanted to give this community an early preview.

See demo here:

We are launching with a Phase 1 version of the feature, which allows you to do local translations of any webpage into your device’s language.

Initial rollout languages (Week 1):

  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • Japanese
  • German
  • French

After the first week, we will begin expanding to all Mozilla supported languages. The feature is already available in Firefox iOS Nightly, so feel free to try it and share your feedback with us. I’m also attaching a short demo so you can see it in action.

    As always with Firefox:

  • Translations are done locally on your device, so your data stays private.

Thanks for your continued support and ideas!
