Status: New idea

For passwords I use a dedicated password manager that I use for all kinds of passwords. I don´t want to store and sync passwords in browsers for obvious reasons.

However I don´t mind other browser specific information like address, phone, email, payment information to be stored and synced in my browser. Currently switching of password management also switches off form management in Firefox.

Making moves

This is a very reasonable suggestion and I think many Firefox users would agree. A lot of people already rely on dedicated password managers for security reasons, but still want the browser to handle non sensitive data like addresses, phone numbers, and emails. Tying password storage and form autofill together removes flexibility and forces users to give up useful features they are comfortable with.

Having separate controls for passwords and other form data would improve privacy, usability, and trust. It would also align Firefox better with how people actually manage their digital security today. Hopefully the Mozilla team takes this idea seriously.
