Status: New idea

Hi,

since the newest versions of Thunderbird "threaded" conversations seems to be the default view setting for all folders.

We have 1000's of folders and would very much appreciate the possibility to change this view setting for all folders...not having to change it per folder individually.

So - either back to the setting off by default please - or a function to enable/disable the view setting "sort by thread" for all folders at once.

Just allow us to change all folders to "Unthreaded"

Votes?  Return to previous standard, unvoted, traditional, custom, SOP, routine of NON nested threads.  THREADS OFF!  Who needs a vote?  Just give me the tools to turn it off.  In the future, "If it's workin', don't fix it!"

Having our hundreds of folders set to threaded by default is inefficient and annoying. Please STOP MAKING DSECISIONS and overriding settings without giving users the option to modify DEFAULT settings.

I do not use or like the threaded view and would like to see an option to turn it off globally. I too have numerous folders and subfolders and it's too tedious turning the threaded view off or even using the plug-in that provides this functionality. Furthermore I noticed that during the last month or so Thunderbird keeps setting the threaded view back on.

I missed important mails because they got hidden somewhere in a thread after a thunderbrid update. It's annoying to have to do this on every folder seperately.

I found this option is available through advanced configuration. Here's a quick guide:

* In Thunderbird, go to 'Tools' .. 'Settings' (not: 'Account settings')

* Scroll to the bottom and click 'Config Editor' button

* In the box, type 'mailnews.default_v'

* Below, click the pencil ('Edit') button next to 'mailnews.default_view_flags'

* Change the value from 1 to 32

* Restart Thunderbird.

All your folders should now be sorted unthreaded.

Pjotr.

I do not mind the idea of threaded messages as an option. I don't even mind this being the default option. I do vote to have a setting to enable/disable it globally. I also believe the setting shouldn't be changed by an update, if the user disables it themselves.

Yes it is a nightmare that all folders -many hundreds - in all mail accounts have by system default been tagged with threaded, so that I have to meticolously walk through everything to disable it.

In addition to be able to do advanced system editing for a specific parameter (default for NEW folders) I need an extension to do a resetting walk-through of all existing...

This worked for me, just to say it's SETTINGS then GENERAL to get to the Config Editor.

Thanks to Pjotr. 😀

s there really no way to change global view settings on all folders??? I have to change them all individually? The tech people who make these decisions make no sense to me.....

Unfortunately this did not work for me. Does it only impact new folders? Existing folders that hadn't (yet) been set to unthreaded were still threaded after applying this change and restarting Thunderbird.

I'm using Thunderbird 102.10.0 on Ubuntu.  For me it was Edit\Settings, then clicking on 'Config Editor...'  On the 'Advanced Preferences' tab, type in 'mailnews.default_view_flags' as noted by Pjotr, above.  Change it to '0'.  I found this on https://www.badpenguin.org/thunderbirds-default-sort/   '0' for unthreaded.  '1' for threaded.  '32' for expand all messages.

Agree with everyone else. Even the mail prog with the worst flexibility outlook has an option to set a view to all folders - please replicate and allow disabling this as a default
