i have switched from chrome since past 1 month and firefox is just better. the only thing i did not find easy is the option for having multiple profiles to be used at ease, could be better if there was one to easily access seperate profiles for work and home

I'm trying to switch from Chrome to FF due to the former's cessation of support for uBlock Origin, but this issue is a huge sticking point for me.  The fact that it's been nearly two and a half years since this thread was started is discouraging.

To add one necessary feature that may not have been mentioned: in Chrome, a new link from outside (e.g. clicked in Discord) will be opened in whatever window was last active.  If I'm opening a non-work link, I simply have to make sure I bring a non-work browser window to the front before clicking.  In Firefox, every link is opened in the default profile.  There's no quick and easy way to choose in which profile to open a new link on a case-by-case basis (and this is also true if I were to use FF for personal and Chrome for work).  The best I could do is set common work-related sites to open in a container on my non-work profile, but that leads to a very disjointed experience (since I also need a work profile for separate bookmarks, etc.)

2024 and this problem is still alive. I need a fast solution to switch between profiles and FF still doesn't have this one.

For those interested in testing the incomplete profile support that is being developed now.

enter about:config  in the address bar and press enter this will open the advanced preferences.
Accept the risk warning notice

Search for "profiles"
Set browser.profiles.enabled to true (using the toggle button to the right)

Then open the pancake menu at the far top right and you'll see a new profile menu
This is visible in my current Firefox which is version 130

Hey there, just FYI almost all of the code is behind both a pref and a build flag. So you'd have to build from source with the build flag enabled to get the full experience--and even then, it's still in very active development, and you might well run into a bug and break your profiles.

I'll bump this thread as soon as we have something testable in nightly, but right now just flipping the pref is going to get you a strange half-baked experience, not the awesome new thing.

If you want to get notified when we do update the build flag, you can watch this and other profiles threads, or CC yourself on this bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1894239

JMTC... I agree with @jhirsch. Doing the steps that @Neutronium suggested on 9/25/2024 is going to get you a half-baked experience. I just tried the steps and my Firefox profiles broke, Firefox completely disappeared from my Windows 11 pc, I had to reinstall Firefox and lastly had to re-logon to my Firefox account to restore all my bookmarks and add-ons.
Unless you are a developer or a beta tester, and not just a Firefox user like myself, I strongly suggest not being interested in being a tester until they get further along in the build process.

Guys!!! Biggest Update: I just found out that Firefox has made its own native Firefox profile manager a.k.a switcher like in other browsers. You just have to be updated to the latest version and you have to enable "browser.profiles.enabled" option in about:config to "true". After enabling it, you will see the option in the application menu. Its so cool...Finally Firefox has become the best browser again.

@ReginSamPlease read the previous posts in this thread. It is currently not recommended to use this feature flag because the functionality is incomplete. It might break your profiles!!

I would find this helpful for switching between business stuff and personal stuff when using the same computer. I find it very inconvenient to switch currently so I support this suggestion!

How there is not a proper/sensible profile switching mechanism in this browser yet it's beyond rediculous. I can't think of any other browser without this.

Come on Mozilla this is a basic requirement of a modern day browser.

An easy setup for multiple accounts, similar to chrome

Similar to chrome, on startup select a profile which is tied to a different email/account. I work as a freelancer for multiple business and it is quite tedious to have everything on the same profile. I don't want company 1 to show or accidentally link to company 2 or 3. Chrome has this feature, but I can't seem to do this in firefox and I want to de-google my life.
