Setting multiple languages spellcheck

I am using the new feature, spell checking with multiple languages, but this can only be set through the context menu which is lost. Please include these settings to be set in Preferences or the Add-on Dictionaries for permanence.

I use LanguageTool extension, and supports the text check for multiple language (automatic language detection).

Great job all around—this idea has been delivered!

Please note that it is not automatic...you have to use the context menu to turn on/off the spellchecker you want. And you can have multiple languages active.

I'm using enhanced spellchecking feature in chrome browser and I was expecting Firefox to implement it the same way. In the context menu you can choose multiple languages but there is a settings entry where the configuration can be applied and will not require the user to actually change the dictionary buy and every single time. 

I understand why the language detection feature can be tricky to implement and seen as a nice to have capability, but I guess all the users living in countries using many languages in the same time will greatly appreciate. To be honest so far it's one of the main reason I am still using chrome for some use cases.

You can select as many languages as you want for Firefox multiple languages spellcheck. I use simultaneously US English, French and Spanish on multilingual documents.

To activate spellcheck, the dictionary must be installed and selected through the context menu "Languages">. If the dictionary is installed, and is the same as the browser interface, then it will always be active. Not every installed dictionary appears in the context menu. If an installed language is not listed in the Languages menu, then install the dictionary recommended in language tools.

In my case, there are are two excellent French spell checkers, but only one listed in 'language tools' functions in the context menu.  I hope this helps

Thanks a lot for your clarifications. 

I was aware of the possibility to select multiple input languages. Actually my point was to make this selection permanent and global through the browser settings instead of the contextual menu for each website (I think the preference is saved by domain or something like that.. Anyway)

My sentiments exactly. I was hoping for the same, but was happy with any implementation. This is based on Mozilla's priorities and not ours. But, based on past experience, our hopes will be fulfilled when resources become available.
