For years I wish there was an extension that can recognize what I am downloading. For example if I am downloading a jpeg I wish it would save it into Pictures folder or if I am downloading  a PDF to save it to my PDF folder etc. Just a simple addon that gives you option to chose which type of file would be downloaded to which folder. For work I download a lot of materials and all is placed in the download folder automatically, after a week or so with about 200 files I use a special batch script that I call "sorter" it creates a folder for the extensions eg. if there is no folder called jpg for jpg files and I have a jpg file in downloads folder, it will create a new folder called jpg and move all the jpg files to jpg. In the end I have all files sorted in folders per type of file.

Chrome extensions can sort downloads into folders, because Chrome has chrome.downloads.onDeterminingFilename

Firefox doesn't support it yet:

Quick Sorted Download sorts downloads into folders, but it's not fully automatic.

That will be nice. Maybe add-ons developer can create this feature too.

I agree we need this feature in Firefox.

For what it is worth, if you are using Windows there is an app called DropIt (if you are not using Windows, I am sure there are similar apps for other OSes) that can watch your download folder and then move your files based on the criteria you set.

This isn't to suggest that this shouldn't be added to Firefox but to give you an option that can be implemented today.

Thank you all for commenting and feedback. I am using windows and I used DropIt before, it just doesnt cut it for me. Also that software is ancient xD. Thx for suggesting tho

Then you might want to be detailed on what you are looking for because DropIT will do what you have described.  I don't know what being ancient has to do with anything, long as it works.
