Similar to whats in Opera GX, a tool that would allow you to control how much resources (RAM, CPU, Network, etc) Firefox is allowed to use.

In addition to Opera GX, Microsoft Edge now supports this feature (Settings > System and Performance > Performance > Resource Controls along with a setting to only make it apply when gaming or always.

Looking forward to seeing this in Firefox (or LibreWolf / Floorp / etc) soon, hopefully!

I really don't want to use a non-Firefox browser because I want to keep uBlock Origin.

Limitable RAM/CPU usage

I love firefox and have been using it with the duckduckgo search engine to avoid the corporate greed + spyware called chrome, but my only problem is I have a potato PC so it would be a great idea to implement CPU and RAM usage, like the unloaded tabs feature but on steroids.

Limiting CPU and RAM usage directly relates to bottleneck prevention. When one process consumes too many resources, it creates a bottleneck that slows down other tasks. Controlling usage helps balance performance and keeps the system running smoothly even on low-end PCs.

Limiting CPU and RAM usage prevents resource hogging that can create system bottlenecks and slow down other processes.
By controlling resource consumption, overall performance stays balanced and stable, even on low-end PCs.

Microsoft Edge has a similar capability which was introduced in 2024-25, where the RAM consumption is limited based on the user setting. User can select on how much RAM the browser can consume, from 1GB or 2GB or 3GB or upto maximum physical RAM. The increments can be in terms of 1GB or 512MB or 256MB and so on.

If CPU usage cannot be limited then please do consider whether RAM consumption can be limited, similar to how Microsoft Edge does it.

If possible please do provide the ability to check if SWAP is being used and if yes then restricting that too.
