Hello,

I was very surprised that Thunderbird does not offer an option to show the e-mail-adress of the sender in a column in the table (like the columns "From" and "Correspondents"). This new column would be very useful to quickly identify spam/junk e-mails.

This feature can be added with add-ons:

This feature seems very basic and simple and like it should not require an add-on.

If you do a Google search for this feature, then you find many people, who have asked for this feature for many years.

Please, add this feature to the new version. I rolled my version back to use the addon and I will use the new version only with a sender feature.

I support this feature too. It is very important for me.

For me (and others) its a fix for a security issue.

Being able to see the senders email address (in a new column) help me to detect 99% of all spam and malware messages which pass Thunderbird internal junk filter.

So I appreciate a fast addition to core Thunderbird.

Thank you

I think it’s absurd that displaying the senders email address from the header information is not the default, let alone that you need an addin to show it.  The ability to show the senders email address must be restored to TB supernova and all future editions.  Madness it was ever taken away as an option.  Not showing the email address is a major security and spam flaw.  I’m not upgrading to supernova till this is fixed.

Please, give me a option to show the e-mail address of the sender in the message table or give me back the functionality of "Full Address column" plugin.

To click on every e-mail to see the senders e-mail address is not a safe solution for me.

I don't want to change to another mail program because of this, thank you.

I also would love to see this implemented!

I'm receiving many phishing emails, but when I browse through the list of emails in my inbox then this isn't obvious. In the "from" column I can only see the name of the sender displayed and not the sender's email address.

In the past there used to be an add-on to mitigate this problem, but that add-on doesn't work any more for TB 115.6.0 (64-bit).

The add-on was: "Show Address Only" Latest version 0.2.0 Released Sept. 19, 2019 11.9 KiB Works with Thunderbird 68.0 - 77.0 Current maintainer: R.I.P.

When I try to install it, then I get the message: "This add-on is not compatible with your version of Thunderbird. "

I would like to be able to instantly check the sender email address before opening an email. How can I list sender email address instead of only (a forged) name?

This should be basic functionality of Thunderbird.

Agree with you. Meanwhile, I display - on the bottom - the upper part of the message content, which does show the true sender, for example

KillerGuitarRigs<info@killerguitarrigs.com>

I sort by "Correspondents" to delete whole groups and for the singletons, look at the message header to see the true sender. Hope this helps, but yes, the column with the true sender should be there.

Hi,
due to the rising necessity of being able to see the true mail addresses,
based on phishing and other security themes, this add-on would be a major security improvement.
Please make "full-address-column" possible in V115 and above.

Hello,

it would be very nice if the two addons and their features were integrated into Thunderbird. Unfortunately the addon "Full Address Column" does not work at the moment. However, it is centrally important for increasing security when using e-mail, as it is clear who the sender of an e-mail is. Without the features, there is no competence in the use of e-mails and it is then rather dangerous, because the users are rather "blind" without the representation of the sender.

The two main advantages of Thunderbird compared to other email software are:
1 - the possibility of sorting in an ascending or descending manner according to the contents of the columns,
2 - the possibility of displaying the real address of the sender instead of his name which is often nonsense.
This second advantage has just disappeared with the new version of the software.

For obscure reasons (?) current developers turn a deaf ear when we ask them to display only the real address of the sender, which would allow real filtering of emails that we never want to read (spam).

Almost all existing ones only allow you to make selections, not sorting.
And none that I know of, allows you to completely hide the name associated with the sender and only show the address.

I'm willing to give up Thunderbird for any competing software that would give me both of these features.

Look at Betterbird (https://www.betterbird.eu/) and read that site carefully. You'll get all the advantages of Thunderbird you're attached to, plus many solved bugs and some feature requests implemented, that still aren't solved or developed by TB. For instance the visible 'From:' addresses and a multiline e-mail-list.

I switched a few months ago, and I will only return to TB when all those thousands often very old bugs will be solved. I am so happy with BB that I felt obliged to support them generously.

Hello Mozilla... why is it taking you so long to address this issue? Are users security and privacy not a concern to you?

In Microsoft Outlook whenever I received a suspicious email, if I decide to open it, the first thing I do is move it to the junk folder, in there I would then mouse over the URL's and email address to reveal the actual links or sending email. In Thunderbird I do the same but hovering over the text only the URL's reveal the actual link, the email address reveals nothing!

It's a common feature in most all other email programs, it's been a feature in Outlook for about 20 years, it's even a common suggestion from retailers and the privacy and security industry to "mouse over" the address to reveal the actual senders address before opening!!!

View Source (Ctrl+U) is far too confusing for the average user and the add-on "Full Address Column" doesn't appear to be available anymore, not for me anyways!

So, Mozilla, are you making this happen or do users need to migrate to different email program… please let the community know!!!

How many users do have to vote respectively comment on this issue before the Thunderbird takes action and implements this ? I feel this is extremely ignorant. I've never seen any reaction from the Thunderbird team on this.
I used, as many others the add on "full address column". But since the last update of Thunderbird the add on was silently removed and cannot be installed again.

Very frustrating !

It seems something is happening: look at comment #88 and further in this 20-year old bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=243258

Good news! 😀

Hello all.   This has not been worked on previously because of other priorities.  But we have good news, a developer and I discussed this early in the week, and a fix is being developed as I write this.  It is planned to be available in the next version 128 due this summer.  Estimate available in beta in a few weeks.
