My only issue with Thunderbird is its (terrible) search function. Until three years ago, I used MS Outlook (the legacy version) for work—I got along with it perfectly well, and perhaps that’s why my expectations are skewed.
Let me give you an example: I often needed to look up old emails where I only vaguely remembered the content. For instance, I knew they contained the words "Thomas," "bank," and "game board." So, I’d type those words into the search bar, and it would display the opening lines of a few emails; I could then expand and read them simply by hovering my mouse over them. I never actually learned how to use Outlook formally; the search function was just intuitive and it worked.
With Thunderbird, I often get no results at all if I enter more than one word into the search field. It’s hit-or-miss—sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. When it does work, a calendar (which seems superfluous to me) appears, followed by a few search results below it. If I try to examine them more closely, I often get the message: "No message found." I just can't seem to get the hang of Thunderbird's search function—though everything else about it is great!
