I'd like to be able to keep the thunderbird settings, layouts, etc in sync across multiple systems (and ideally, mobile).

"Android Thunderbird" really ought to sync all these things with "Desktop Thunderbird" ... otherwise it's in danger of only being "Android email app that's called Thunderbird"

Full user sync is the only thing missing from Thunderbird for me. I use multiple computers, and find myself reinstalling my OS and apps frequently to test different Linux distros. Having the capability to sign in to my Thunderbird account to import all of my settings, and accounts would be a game changer. I could foresee this being a potential security issue, but assuming it can be done safely the benefits are obvious. Having this same functionality in Firefox is one of the major reasons I continue to use Firefox as my daily driver.

I heard it's going to beta soon, but we'll see.

As part of this, I would also like to sync my selections for "Allow remote content from". I am regularly adding more exceptions, and have to do this for each machine Thunderbird is installed.

Hi,
I'm using a bit Thunderbird, but there are a lot of small issues that you can consult here :  All the things that are holding me back from fully using and supporting Thunderbird

A missing behavior, probably the most important one in my opinion: synchronization of settings between devices. I can't imagine fully using Thunderbird without this. For example :

A user begin to use Thunderbird a lot, this user will look at his emails from a phone plus two computers. He start to configure and discover on the fly some settings a little by little on his main computer. Then he decide to setup another device but find out he need to redo everything, not to mention that he has forgotten half of the changes he made.
In fact, he probably found out that Gmail, Outlook or another app already meet his needs. The question is, why did he started to try another app ? Probably because he needed a centralized app with all his emails so no need to have multiple tabs open on his browser. But he couldn't make the transition in a small amount of time while keeping his habits.

He had to change some settings because he couldn't get back his habits.

Any update on this? I seem to remember it mentioned in relation to Thunderbird Pro but I can't find it anymore. Being able to sync tags and the "Allow remote content" would massively improve workflow as most users have more than one device.

Thunderbird Sync

"We implemented this in the Daily build of the desktop app last year, using a staging environment for Firefox Sync. But Firefox Sync is called Firefox Sync because it’s built for Firefox. Thunderbird profiles, in comparison, have a lot more data points. This meant we had to build something completely different.

As we started to spin up Thunderbird Pro, we decided it made more sense to have a Thunderbird account that would manage everything, including Sync. Unfortunately, this meant a lot of delays. So Sync is still on our radar, and we hope to have it next year, barring further complications."

This functionality would be very welcome. I regularly use at least 4 desktop computers, all of which are at least dual-boot with some combination of Windows, macOS, and Linux, plus I have an iPad and iPhone, so that's at least 10 different instances of Thunderbird that I have to configure with at least 4 email accounts.

I just got a new laptop yesterday, and have to set up Thunderbird all over again on both Windows and Linux, so that all my email is available to me no matter which OS I am currently using. Firefox Sync exists, and that functionality ought to be built into Thunderbird.

Thunderbird Sync will make this possible: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/firefox-sync-for-thunderbird/idi-p/28971 . It's a great feature to look forward to!
