Hi,
I’m using Mozilla Thunderbird with multiple email accounts (personal and work), and I’ve encountered a recurring issue.
When composing a new email, Thunderbird often selects the sending account automatically based on the currently selected folder. This can lead to accidentally sending emails from the wrong account (for example, using a personal address instead of a work account).
This is a common source of mistakes in professional environments.
While there are some workarounds (checking the “From” field, using extensions like Identity Chooser, or visual cues such as signatures), they either rely too much on user attention or don’t cover all scenarios. For instance, actions like “Send to → Mail recipient” from Windows Explorer seem to bypass these safeguards.
I would like to suggest a built-in feature to help prevent this kind of mistake, such as:
A warning or confirmation prompt when sending from a non-default or less frequently used account
The ability to define a preferred/default account and trigger a warning when another account is used
Optional rules based on recipients (e.g., warn when sending from a personal account to a corporate domain)
This would help reduce human error and improve usability for users managing multiple accounts.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
