External email archives

With my saved emails in Local Folders ever growing, making my profile enormous and unwieldy to search and backup I would like to see Thunderbird have functions to archive emails to zip files that are stored separately to the profile and hence removing them from the profile. For example archive all emails from 2025 to an external file say Emails_2025.zip. Of course Thunderbird would also need to be able to examine emails in an such zip archives and open them as required. Perhaps Thunderbird could, on request, open a zip file and place the contained emails temporarily in the profile as read only and to be deleted on request or exiting. Alternatively, Thunderbird could present metadata from the archive and open individual emails on request.
