Unfortunately, Thunderbird still saves all passwords as plain text, which puts them at risk to anyone who has access to your computer. While there is an option to use a master password, it is not commonly used and does not integrate seamlessly with the operating system you are using.

@Thomas_DC the Thunderbird label is applied to the idea and OP also mentions "Thunderbird" in the original idea post - @gunwald are you able to confirm that this request is for the Thunderbird product? Thank you!

@JonIn fact, I think this idea is good for Firefox too, no matter if @gunwald never thought about that before.

Do you think it is acceptable, and if yes, are you able to integrate my contribution to this idea? Even if @gunwald doesn't explicitly approve it?

Jon and I do not set development priorities.  However, Thunderbird and Firefox do share some code, and the password manager is one of those areas. So if Firefox gets this capability then Thunderbird would follow suit.

That said, you will want to create the same idea for Firefox, if it does not already exist.
