It could be made so that if you press Shift+Enter or Ctrl+Enter a search term into the search bar, it uses a different engine. For example, I like using perplexity for my search engine because it gives me direct answers. Still, I could also be looking for something specific, and I'd want to use Google, then I have to take my hands off my keyboard, carefully hit the tiny drop-down menu, and switch engines, AND switch back afterwards. It's just too much of a hassle.

There's various ways to access different engines without taking your hands of the keyboard:

  • Type `@google ` before the search term (If you just type `@` you'll see a list of search engines that have aliases - you can set up more in the search settings.
  • You can use Alt + up/down (option + up/down on Mac) arrows which will open the menu and then let you select the search engine you want to use
  • Once you're focussed in the address bar, you can press shift-tab to get onto the menu and then open it from there.
