Automatic switch between vertical/horizontal tabs

I really like vertical tabs when my browser is maximised. Each time I reduce its size it is to share my screen between different apps; with this setting I would like to have horizontal tab. And I would like this behaviour to be autonomic.

This would also be useful for a multi-monitor setup where at least one monitor is lower resolution and/or portrait mode.
