Status: New idea

With the DMA in the EU Google added a new search engine choice screen, but when a user chooses a different option than Google, it automatically installs their web browser and sets it as the only way to search with that service, driving users away from Firefox. The solution would be to add Firefox as an option to that list along with the other browsers (such as duckduckgo or ecosia browser) so that the user can decide to use for example duckduckgo through Firefox instead of their browser. This would also remove the need to have more than one browser installed

Adding my (duplicate) request for this just in case the extra explanations help understand why this is important:

Seconding! It absolutely feels like google is making this hard to handle to cut out firefox, and I absolutely don't want to be that deep in their ecosystem!

I am a Google devotee who wishes to use Firefox as a default browser for searches so that Firefox gets the value of my data to support Firefox.  Firefox could optionally share my data with Google so Google is also rewarded.  People talk about privacy being about nobody getting data, but I would rather control how and to whom my data are disseminated.  Our data are valuable.  Let's use our value to support the institutions that support us.
