Noticed the "new" tab group functionality.  Now that I have way too many tabs open I need tab groups..adding a new tab to a tab group would be easier if i didn't have to expand the tab group first...can i just add the tab to the tab group (colored square) without expanding it? thanks.

'Drag and Drop' for closed/minimized tab groups

Cheers to you, my hero developers!

Say you have a "maximized" or "opened" tab group. In this case it's no problem to drag and drop another tab into that group. BUT: When the tab group is closed/minimized and you try to drop another tab in/on that group, the little coloured (square) icon of that group slips from left to right and vice versa as soon as you reach it with the cursor. This behavior seems a little unintuitive in my opinion - it should slip from top to bottom; *sorry* No, it should be possible to drop a tab on that group symbol without having to open the group again, of course; in addition to the (in some circumstances tedious) '> right click > add tab to group > choosing group' procedure.

To go one step further: this drag & drop function could/should also be possible for entire groups (like dragging group B on group A in order to merge them).

Hi folks,

This enhancement has just shipped with release 144: once you update, you will be able to drag tabs into closed groups.

In a little bit, we will also try to follow up with a small optimization and show an unobtrusive toast notification. That way, one would be able to see confirmation that the tab was actually added to a group.

Great news...

This is now delivered in Firefox 144 — see @asafko's recent comment for more information.

Try it out and let us know what you think 😃

Amazing! I have another idea: it would be wonderful if, when right-clicking on a tab to move it to a specific group, the destination group did not then expand/open.
